The Yellowstone National Park located mainly in Wyoming is the oldest national park of the USA and the world. It was founded in 1872.

The park is famous because of the rich variety in thermal and volcanic features but also for it's interresting wildlife

and the good opportunities for hiking and other outdoor activities.The hot spring on the photo above represents one type of thermal features as seen in the Yellowstone.

Most of the following panorama images consist of three single photos which were put together electronically on the computer. Photos are from the Upper Geyser Basin, from Mammoth Hot Springs, from the Mud Volcano area, from the Fountain Paint Pot area, from the Norris Geyser Basin and from other locations like the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone...
  Geo thermal activity creates areas with dying trees. The surface is covered by lots of crystallic features, glimmering in many beautyful colors. Left the Dark Cavern Geyser.
  Not just geysers are covering the landscape. A lot of steaming vents produce visible and smellable output. Take care for your photo lens.
  In 1988 forest fires devastated the Yellowstone Park. Many years later still no new forest life grewed up. Thousands of black tree skeletons remember those days...
  In other areas forests and flora are growing like always before. Water of thermal activity is running towards the close river.
  Fumaroles and features of the Fountain Paint Pot area. Thick mud is bubbling and bursting.
  The Porclain Basin as part of the Norris Basin. Nowhere else I found such high variety in thermal features combined with interresting fauna and flora like here in the Yellowstone NP.
  The grey looking trees in the background left died because of fire, some white looking trees in the middle died because of high ground tempe-rature, but there are still enough trees green.
  The forest fires let just over some devastated mess of wooden skeletons. This water location produces some interresting mirror effects.
  The crystal structure of the canyon rim is sign of some former volcanic activity.
  The Yellowstone River waters have digged some deep canyon. The Upper and the Lower Fall are very impressive waterfalls.

  Beginning of June most of the Yellowstone Lake is still frozen. The elevation of the lake level is about 2400 meters above sea level.
